Iran operates first indigenous Catamaran Landing Craft

BANDAR ABBAS, Oct. 27 (MNA) – Iran has floated its first indigenous catamaran landing craft (L-CAT).

Mehran Broushan, the director of the project to build the first landing craft told Mehr News that the craft was named in the honor of Iranian 8th century poet Nizami Ganjavi as ‘Nizami Ganjavi 2.’

“The ship was built in Farasahel Ship Building complex under the supervision of Bahr Gostaresh Hormuz; the cruise has applications in carrying heavy machinery, containers and trucks,” he told Mehr News.

“The ship satisfies Iranian and global standards of operation between the mainland and islands; the ship is capable of carrying 90 automobiles; 20 containers, and 20 trucks,” Broushan said, and that “an advantage of the ship is its enjoying of two hulls which enables it to easily frequent the mainland and the island in inclement weather conditions.”

He also said that design and manufacture of the ship were possible indigenously and satisfied related global standards.
